AMA Private Sector Advocacy Explains Payment Problems

Medical societies and physicians routinely address payment delays and denials, and sometimes have to face downcoding and bundling problems. To help bring focus and possible solutions to the problems, AMA Private Sector Advocacy has enhanced its Web site to help medical societies and physicians better understand what they can do to combat payment problems. "Downcoding and Bundling Claims: What Physicians Need to Know About These Payment Problems," explains how to deal with downcoding and bundling, and covers a wide range of other issues including the following:

  • Terminology, such as the AMA's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), commonly used in coding and claims submission;
  • Keys to ensure accurate documentation to ensure proper claims submission;
  • Some common health insurer tactics that undermine physicians' efforts to get fair compensation for services rendered;
  • AMA policy regarding downcoding and bundling; and What individual physicians, group practices and medical societies can do to fight the problems.
