About the FMA
The FMA, founded in 1874, is a professional association dedicated to the service and assistance of Doctors of Medicine and Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida. The FMA represents more than 16,000 physicians on issues of legislation and regulatory affairs, medical economics, public health, education, and ethical and legal issues. The FMA provides numerous services for its members, including promoting the science and art of medicine and the betterment of public health; uniting the medical profession of Florida into one organization and to federate with similar organizations in other states and territories to form the American Medical Association; extending medical knowledge and advancing medical science; elevating the standard of medical education; striving for the enactment, preservation, and enforcement of medical and public health laws; providing opportunities for peer contact among physicians and guarding and fostering their material interests; enlightening and alerting the public on health-related issues and concerns; representing the interests of physicians and patients before the Florida Legislature and state regulatory agencies.
