Regulatory Boards Monitored by FM
The FMA monitors the activities of each of the 33 regulatory board or councils of the Department of Health. Since the last regulatory update, the FMA has represented your interests at meetings of the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Department of Financial Services, the Department of Health, and the Board of Pharmacy. Physician Workforce Survey: Action Required
The Physician Workforce Survey is required as part of the licensure renewal process. If you renewed by 1/31/08 and did not complete the survey, the Board of Medicine would like to remind you that you are required to do so no later than April 30, 2008. Failure to submit the survey may result in a non-disciplinary citation and delay future licensure renewal. Counterfeit-proof Prescription Blank Program
Beginning Oct. 1, 2001, the Florida Medicaid program required medical practitioners (prescribers) to use a counterfeit-proof prescription blank produced by an approved vendor when writing hard copy prescription orders for Medicaid recipients This also became a Federal law effective April 1, 2008. Miami Doctor Breaks New Ground in Cancer Surgery
Miami surgeon and FMA member, Tomoaki Kato, MD, had to remove a lot more than a cancerous tumor during an unprecedented operation on a 63-year-old Florida woman earlier this month. He removed and replaced six organs in order to remove the tumor during the course of the operation. Read the complete story here.

FMA members, Louis St. Petery, MD Julia St. Petery, MD, were recently honored with the I.B. Harrison M.D., Humanitarian Award and Larry C. Deeb, MD was honored with the Outstanding Physician Award by the Capital Medical Society, in association with Doctors' Day. Read more here.
