Florida Medicaid will continue to use the state license
number to identify the prescriber for prescription drug
claims and will not require the NPI for the prescribing
provider on the claim. The billing pharmacy's NPI will be
required on the claim.
Some state Medicaid programs are adopting the NPI for
prescriber identification which is causing some confusion
for pharmacy providers. "They can continue to use the state
license to identify prescribers for Florida Medicaid," said
Jerry F. Wells, Chief of Medicaid Pharmacy Services.
