CMS Announces Contingency Plan for NPI Numbers
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that it is implementing a contingency plan for the May 23, 2007 deadline for NPI numbers.  The compliance date is now no later than May 23, 2008.  Click here for more information.

Prescription Drug Claims

Florida Medicaid will continue to use the state license number to identify the prescriber for prescription drug claims and will not require the NPI for the prescribing provider on the claim.  The billing pharmacy's NPI will be required on the claim.

Some state Medicaid programs are adopting the NPI for prescriber identification which is causing some confusion for pharmacy providers. "They can continue to use the state license to identify prescribers for Florida Medicaid," said Jerry F. Wells, Chief of Medicaid Pharmacy Services.
