Background

Click here for the 2008-2009 Florida Medical Association Foundation Scholarship application. This scholarship is targeted to medical students who demonstrate a commitment to organized medicine and public health initiatives. One $5,000 scholarship will be presented to a successful candidate from each of Florida's four allopathic medical schools at the Florida Medical Association Annual Meeting on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Founded in 1956, the mission of the Foundation is "to support medical education, scholarships, medical and clinical research; contribute to the personal and professional development of physicians and to promote the delivery of high quality health care in Florida."

Eligibility

• Applicants must be entering their third or fourth year in medical school.
• Applicant must be a United States Citizen.
• Applicant must have been a member of the Florida Medical Association and their county medical society for at least one year.
• Applicant must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited allopathic medical school program in Florida.
• Applicant must submit a recommendation from the Dean (or Dean's representative) of his/her medical school.
• Applicant must demonstrate personal motivation for excellence in both character and academic achievement. Examples of personal integrity, as exemplified by leadership, community involvement, public health initiatives and concern for others will be considered.
• Applications must be received at the Florida Medical Association Foundation by April 14, 2008.
• Applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection in writing.
• Applicants must attend the scholarship award ceremony during the FMA Annual Meeting on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Winners will be notified in writing and must attend the scholarship awards ceremony. Scholarships will be presented in Orlando, Florida at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida on August 1, 2008 during the Florida Medical Association Annual Meeting.

Application Checklist
